PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Description
The Elkhart Plastics 1000 Gallon Vertical Water Storage Tank 1.0 SG (MPN 307065A00) is a rotomolded, one-piece vertical tank molded from UV-stabilized high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water-only storage. It is rated for 1.0 specific gravity (8.3 lb/gal), the weight of water, and is not rated for chemicals or fertilizers. The tank measures 64" in diameter and 79" tall, weighs 178 lb and is molded in black, which blocks light from entering the tank to help resist algae growth. In this size Elkhart Plastics also makes the 1000 Gallon Vertical Chemical Storage Tank 1.5 SG in natural (MPN 107065A01) and the 1000 Gallon Vertical Chemical Storage Tank 1.9 SG in light blue (MPN 307065A01) for heavier liquids.
Elkhart Plastics vertical water tanks are built with more connection points, an air bleed for maximum fill and a tough tank top. Each comes standard with two 16" manway lids, a 1-1/2" female NPT bulkhead inlet fitting at the top and a 2" female NPT bulkhead outlet fitting at the bottom. Elkhart Plastics is a Myers Industries company.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is it made of?
The tank is molded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) compliant with FDA Regulation 177.1520 and NSF/ANSI 61 standards. The fittings are polypropylene with EPDM gaskets. Polyethylene does not contain BPA.
What specific gravity is it rated for?
It is rated for 1.0 specific gravity (8.3 lb/gal). Water is 1.0 specific gravity (8.3 lb/gal). This is a water-only tank: Elkhart Plastics does not rate its 1.0 SG tanks for chemicals, fertilizers or anything other than clean water.
What are the dimensions?
It measures 64" in diameter and 79" tall and weighs 178 lb.
What can I use it for?
Potable water, bulk water, rainwater collection, well water, fire suppression water, irrigation, livestock watering and industrial water systems.
What temperature can it handle?
Elkhart Plastics rates its tanks for intermittent temperatures up to 140°F (60°C) and sustained temperatures up to 120°F (49°C). Service temperatures above that lower the tank's specific gravity rating. Deionized water can be stored at up to 100°F (38°C).
Can it be buried or pressurized?
No. Elkhart Plastics liquid tanks are not engineered for burial and cannot be pressurized or put under vacuum. The tank must be vented for filling and emptying.
What does it need to sit on?
A level, well-drained site that fully supports the tank bottom. Elkhart Plastics recommends reinforced concrete support pads for tanks over 1,000 gallons, and anchoring to your site's seismic and wind requirements. Vertical bulk storage tanks are for stationary use only, not transport.
What other versions come in this size?
Elkhart Plastics also makes the 1000 Gallon Vertical Chemical Storage Tank 1.5 SG in natural (MPN 107065A01) and the 1000 Gallon Vertical Chemical Storage Tank 1.9 SG in light blue (MPN 307065A01).
How do I install the fittings and plumbing?
Tighten bulkhead fitting nuts hand-tight plus a half turn. Over-tightening can crack poly fittings, and a damaged fitting should always be replaced. If you use thread sealant, make sure it is compatible with both the fittings and the stored liquid. Avoid rigid plumbing connections, because temperature changes and filling and emptying put stress on the fittings. Support hoses, pipe runs, valves and filters with their own hangers so their weight does not hang on the fittings.
What should I do before the first fill?
Fill the tank with water and test the tank, fittings and installation at full capacity for at least 4 hours before storing your liquid. Never fill or empty the tank without adequate venting, and keep vents clear of ice and snow. The warranty does not cover lost liquid.
Will freezing temperatures hurt it?
Polyethylene is not affected by freezing temperatures, but if the stored liquid can freeze, leave room for expansion. Protect the tank walls from impact, especially below 40°F (4°C), and take extra care when moving it in cold weather, when the risk of cracking is greater.
What should I check when it is delivered?
Inspect the tank for defects or shipping damage as soon as it arrives, and note any damage or discrepancy on both the driver's bill of lading and the packing list. Damaged-product claims must be made within 30 days. When unloading, keep lift forks, loader buckets and sharp objects away from the tank wall, never let the tank roll over on its fittings, unload onto level ground clear of rocks, and do not unload in high winds. Large bulk tanks should be unloaded with a crane or another suitable lifting device.
Is it UV-stabilized, and what is its fire rating?
Elkhart Plastics molds its tanks from polyethylene compounded with UV light stabilizers. Its standard UV rating is 15, meaning the tank keeps about 50% of its UV protection after 15,000 hours of sun exposure; the rating can vary by product, so contact us to confirm it for this model. Elkhart's polyethylene carries a UL94 HB flammability rating.
How can I tell when it was made?
Elkhart Plastics water tanks are embossed with a date stamp in month/year format.
Can I paint or repair it?
Elkhart Plastics does not recommend painting its tanks. Paint, even with an adhesion promoter, eventually peels because polyethylene expands and contracts with temperature. A damaged polyethylene tank can be repaired by plastic welding, done by qualified personnel.
How long does it take to ship, and where does it ship from?
Lead time is 3-4 weeks, depending on inventory and volume. It ships from Atlantic, IA.
Who makes it?
Elkhart Plastics, a Myers Industries company. Manufacturer part number 307065A00.

Warranty Information
Elkhart Plastics warrants its vertical storage tanks against defects in material and workmanship for 5 years from the original purchase date, extended to 10 years when the original purchaser or end user registers the tank with Elkhart Plastics within 30 days of purchase. Fittings, gaskets and accessories installed by Elkhart Plastics are warranted for 1 year. Coverage is limited to repair, replacement or a pro-rated credit, and requires storing suitable liquids within the tank's specific gravity rating; see the full Limited Warranty above. Warranty claims must be made in writing within 14 days of discovering the problem. The warranty does not cover issues caused by improper installation or use, liquids above the tank's specific gravity rating, a base that does not fully support the tank or has rocks or roots, moving the tank from its original installation, freezing, storms or other natural events, or staining and discoloration.
